FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kingston, ON – Following a highly successful foray into the elite Soccer Academy Alliance of Canada (SAAC) league this summer, the Kingston-Belleville FC (KBFC) Pro Soccer Academy today announced plans to expand its elite youth team line-up for 2017 and also launched its Fall/Winter soccer development training programs which will take place in both Kingston and Belleville.
Buoyed by the successful inaugural season in the highly-competitive SAAC league, the KBFC Academy confirmed plans to enter additional SAAC teams for the 2017 summer outdoors season. KBFC intends to enter both a U-12 and U-13 boys team in SAAC next summer, and may consider additional teams – both boys and girls. To that end, KBFC Academy has issued an invitation to any youth player born between 2003 and 2008 interested in elite-level Academy soccer to attend an open training session and information night the Academy will host at the 1000 Islands Sportsplex on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 6 pm (players born 2006, 2007 & 2008) and 7 pm (players born 2003, 2004 & 2005). Interested Players/Parents are asked to pre-register at www.kbfcacademy.ca.
Lorne Abugov, General Manager of the KBFC Pro Soccer Academy and Mike Akai, Technical Director of the Academy unveiled four age-related indoor pro soccer development programs in Kingston and a multi-age training program in Belleville beginning later this month and continuing until March 2017. All of the KBFC Academy indoor programs are geared towards both elite players in the region aged 11 and older and recreational soccer players aged 5 to 10 years of age.
The 2016-2017 Kingston-based programs, which are open to all boys and girls within the Kingston-Belleville-Quinte region, are entitled Kickstart, Kickspark Intro, Kickspark and Kicksmart, and each is described in the Schedule to this News Release.
In addition, management of the KBFC Pro Soccer Academy today announced the organization’s first indoor program based in Belleville for boys and girls aged 13 to 16+, which will run at the Loyalist Dome for 18 sessions split into Fall (8 sessions) and Winter (10 sessions) and which will commence on October 29 and conclude on March 18, 2017.
The Academy also issued congratulations to three of its young members who spent this past summer competing along with their KBFC Academy U-12 Boys teammates in the elite Soccer Academy Alliance of Canada (SAAC) League based in Toronto. Adrian Dagres, Zakariyya Brewster and Reda Hussain of the KBFC Academy U-12 team were recently identified by the Toronto FC organization – based upon their strong play in the SAAC League – to join other young SAAC League talents in a training session showcase for the MLS club’s coaches. Following their strong showing in Toronto during the initial player assessments, all three KBFC Academy youngsters have now been invited back for the final round of tryouts with the Toronto FC Academy on Saturday, October 16th.
“There is no clearer proof of the worth of youth Academy soccer in our district than the opportunity our players have received from Toronto FC in our first season of elite competition,” said Mr. Akai. “This past season in the SAAC league has given these Kingston youth players a level of exposure to elite Academy teams in the province and to pro coaches at the top of the pyramid of play in this province. This is truly unprecedented for Kingston soccer players, but it proves we have the talent waiting to be properly developed, and it’s only just begun!”
BACKGROUND & QUOTES
In early August 2015, the KBFC Pro Soccer Academy was designated by the OSA as the province’s 22nd Ontario Registered Non-Club Academy (ORNCA), a prized, standards-based designation reserved for elite soccer development academies, becoming one of only two OSA ORNCA-accredited pro soccer academies east of the Greater Toronto Area, the other being the Kevin Nelson Soccer Academy based in Ottawa.
According to Mike Akai, having “…an ORNCA-accredited pro soccer academy in the Kingston-Belleville region is a huge step forward for soccer training and development in our region. Achieving the Ontario Soccer Association’s gold-standard is the culmination of several years of hard work laying the groundwork and then months of intense effort in satisfying the OSA’s rigorous criteria for Academies, including technical inspections by OSA personnel who adjudged our training sessions to be among the best in the province,” said Mr. Akai.
For Lorne Abugov, the OSA designation was a welcome reward for the time and effort already invested by the Kingston-Belleville FC Pro Soccer Academy in improving the level of soccer in the region, including the efforts of many of the pro coaches and players who pioneered pro soccer in and around Kingston with the Kingston FC Pro Soccer teams. “We are very proud to have brought pro soccer to Kingston in 2012, and we made a difference to this community when we did so,” said Mr. Abugov. “Now we can be equally proud to bring a certified OSA ORNCA pro soccer academy to this region, once again breaking new ground for the soccer community here and for kids and parents who are committed to the love of soccer and to playing the sport at the highest level possible.”
Both Mr. Akai and Mr. Abugov were delighted that parents who had to travel in the past to Toronto or to the United States to find elite level training and pro soccer development for their talented youngsters could now benefit from proven, standards-based Academy pro soccer training programs of comparable or higher quality delivered right here in the region.
As a result of the OSA designation, the KBFC Pro Soccer Academy is now fully sanctioned to work with all OSA-registered soccer players throughout the region to enhance their technical development. The Academy’s objective is to offer professional quality training to all players in the region with a view to supplementing their youth clubs’ programs, thereby raising the overall level of skills and competency in areas of the Academy’s operations. Players enrolled in all Academy programs can maintain their youth club registrations and do not currently need to register with the OSA through the Academy.
